Welcome to the BUDS-ERT web site

The Government of Uganda is implementing a 10-year Energy for Rural Transformation Project (ERT) which aims at increasing electricity access to rural areas in order to reduce poverty and foster development. The ERT project is coordinated by Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development and has various components one of them being the Business Development Services (BUDS-ERT). BUDS-ERT is managed by the Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU).

BUDS-ERT objectives
The main objectives of BUDS-ERT are to develop private sector capacities to start, operate and improve rural electrification-related businesses and to promote the application of efficient productive uses of electricity and traditional fuels in Rural Electrification areas.

BUDS-ERT also provides sales-based performance grants to private companies (including NGOs and other entities in the photo voltaic (pv) business), who market, sell or provide on a leasing or fee-for-service basis, pv products that meet minimum quality standards developed by the Uganda National Bureau of Standards.

Scope of services

• Promotion of business opportunities in ERT areas to the private sector.
• Provision of business development support services to assist the start-up and development of Rural Electrification (RE) related businesses including through cost-share grants.
